dreamed

I was in a hotel lobby watching a sad nature show about a starving elderly wildebeest and you and your family (many people, all from my imagination) came by. I ducked down in the couch to avoid you but you stopped and said "Were you going to let me walk by and not say anything to me?" I said "I'm sorry, I didn't think you were real." You laughed and assured me that you were real. Then I had to answer a lot of questions from your family about how we knew each other and what I was doing with my life. Eventually you and I talked for a bit and you were sweet to me and very pregnant.

I was working as a web designer with some guys who were opening a chain of pie shops called "derics" in locations in Texas and Kentucky. We were all hanging around in a mobile trailer talking, they had their bright blue derics aprons on. A song came on the radio and I said, "I think this is something good." Instead it was a woman singing something about "Today is our wedding day," and it really wasn't cool at all. They guys all made fun of me.

Chick tract

I dreamed I found a Chick tract! It was called "Bogies?" and was poorly printed. It seemed to be aimed at the UK market. I didn't recognize any of the Bible verses. Additionally, I dreamed there was a movie of "Bogies?" starring a pasty but trying-very-hard Courtney Love. It was like "The Wire" but more extreme. There were kid drug dealers who looked less than four years old.

dreamed: last day

I was a temp, and a previous temp had decorated the desk with glued-on chex cereal. A big cleaning lady told me it was my last day. Outside the office, in the hallway, I found a black yearbook from a Philadelphia middle school. It was full of signatures featuring mostly Thai and Filipino sounding names, and it was torn in half down the middle.

Should I fall out of love, my fire in the light?
To chase a feather in the wind?
Within the glow that weaves a cloak of delight
There moves a thread that has no end.

For many hours and days that pass ever soon,
the tides have caused the flame to dim.
At last the arm is straight, the hand to the loom.
Is this to end or just begin?

The cup is raised, the toast is made yet again.
One voice is clear above the din.
Proud Arianne, one word, my will to sustain
For me, the cloth once more to spin.

Yours is the cloth; mine is the hand that sews time.
His is the force that lies within.
Ours is the fire, all the warmth we can find.
He is a feather in the wind.

--Maya Angelou

I dreamed I was watching a show on PBS. Mayor Bloomberg was on it. He said this:

"Everyone knows that parts one, two, and three are what's important--the rest is immaterial. I don't know if that's what the Japanese think about it, but that is the city of New York's position."

Also, he was a cyclops.

I dropped a peanut on the floor....

...and the two halves went an equal distance.
This reminded me of flunking senior physics because (well, only partly because) I lost my calculator and was too cheap to buy another one because it would cut into my record buying money (yeah, this was the kid being groomed for the Ivy League...), of Mr. Mitchell telling Chris Bourque "You reek of the reefer," of someone apologizing for having bad breath because he had hard teeth (or maybe it was soft teeth), of the red drink in the dining hall, and finding an old old penny in a piece of cake there, of how my drummer at the time always chose the dish that required the most forking and kniving, of Mr. Mitchells unrealized promise to perform the gunshot-through-spinning-discs experiment described in our text book, those black laboratory counters, Mr Boyd describing sublimation (solid changing to liquid) as the ultimate fabric softener, of Mr McIntyre letting the school bus roll into a lake with everybody's books and clothes and homework in it, of my eventual bass player and most amazing and loyal friend chasing me down the 5th floor hall (both of us in fencing gear) and smacking me with an epee.

Then I ate the peanut.
